Armed robbery hits Standard Bank
The branch was forced to temporarily close its doors, and customers and staff were left shaken.
Police were called to Standard Bank earlier today (November 10) following an armed robbery that took place inside the building. The branch has since been closed to the public as officers conduct an investigation.
When a Ladysmith Gazette journalist arrived at the scene, police vehicles were parked outside the bank, and officers were seen speaking to witnesses and bank staff inside the premises.
According to a security guard who was on duty at the time, the criminals were armed. It is understood at this stage that one of the customers was robbed inside the bank. It is not yet clear how many robbers were involved or whether any additional money was taken from the bank itself.
No injuries were reported.
Standard Bank management has not yet issued a comment and the branch remains temporarily closed while police conduct forensic work inside the premises.
