Suspected copper thief nabbed in Balsam Avenue

Co-operation between community members, the ward councillor and private security led to an arrest.

A man was caught in the act of stealing copper in Balsam Avenue today (January 20). Swift action by community members, the ward councillor and security services led to the suspect being apprehended.

Community alert leads to quick response

Community members noticed suspicious activity and immediately alerted Ward Councillor Abbas Warasally, who responded without delay and rushed to the scene.

ADT Security and SAPS intervene

ADT Security was also contacted and succeeded in apprehending the man at the scene. Police also responded and took over the matter. Warasally expressed his appreciation to ADT Security and Captain N Magasela of the SAPS for their prompt and professional response.

No injuries reported

It has been confirmed that no one was injured during the incident. The situation was handled calmly and effectively through co-operation between the community, private security and the police.

Community thanks ward councillor

Residents of the area have thanked Cllr Warasally for his hands-on leadership and willingness to respond immediately when called upon. Many described his actions as an example of true community service.
