No evidence of foul play as police investigate burnt-out vehicle

Investigations are continuing.

Police have provided an update as they investigate the case of the burned-out vehicle that was found along the Colenso road near the N3. Human remains were found in the car.

A police source has commented that there is currently no evidence of foul play. However, the investigation is ongoing and foul play cannot be ruled out at this stage either.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan, DNA profiling will be used to establish the identity of the deceased, since the body cannot be physically identified due to the fire.

Police in Winterton initially launched an inquest after the vehicle was found on Saturday morning, February 7. Officers responded to reports and found a car that had been extensively damaged by fire. Human remains were discovered in the driver’s seat.
