Police arrest doctor for alleged sexual assaults in Madadeni
He allegedly touched patients' private parts and forced them to perform sexual acts.
Newcastle police are investigating four cases of sexual assault after a whistleblower reported that a local doctor had allegedly assaulted female patients at a medical facility in Madadeni.
Constable Nonjabulo Langa of Amajuba District SAPS confirmed that an arrest was made on Tuesday (April 28).
Victims come forward after report
According to Langa, the alleged crimes came to light earlier this year when one of the victims approached the whistleblower and disclosed her experience.
It is alleged that the doctor inappropriately touched patients’ private parts and, in some instances, forced them to perform sexual acts while under his care.
“The whistleblower reported the crimes to police, who advised that the victims should come forward and open cases,” said Langa.
Four victims, aged between 29 and 34, were subsequently interviewed. Police were then able to compile a case, leading to the arrest.
Suspect arrested at workplace
Members of the Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, together with Madadeni SAPS, arrested the doctor at his place of work on Tuesday.
He is expected to appear in court soon.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be published as they become available.
