Police seize dagga worth R792K near Newcastle
A man was arrested after 132kg of dagga was found in his vehicle.
A man was arrested after police seized 130kg of dagga with an estimated street value of R792,000 during a joint operation near Ingogo yesterday (May 14).
According to O. Ameen of the Newcastle Crimefighters Task Team, information was received about a vehicle allegedly transporting a large quantity of dagga to Johannesburg via the R34 and N11.
Joint operation after tip-off
Members of the Newcastle Crimefighters Task Team, police officers from Charlestown and Ingogo, and other law enforcement officials responded to the tip-off.
The team headed to the identified area, where they spotted the vehicle, stopped it and conducted a search.
6 bales of dagga found
Ameen said that officers found six bales of high-grade dagga hidden in the vehicle.
“The dagga weighed 132kg and has an estimated street value of R792,000,” he said.
A suspect was arrested and detained at Ingogo SAPS.
Police impounded the vehicle, while the dagga was booked into evidence.
“Well done to all involved,” Ameen concluded.
