Lennoxton resident demands action on service failures
Residents are raising the alarm as collapsing roads and sewage spills worsen across the Lennoxton suburb. Read more here:
Lennoxton residents are at their wits’ end as frustration boils over at the apparent lack of service delivery in their suburb. One resident, who requested anonymity, said that certain issues had persisted for nearly two years, with little to no intervention from the municipality.
According to the resident, these ongoing problems include collapsing road infrastructure, persistent sewage overflows and illegal dumping in open fields opposite people’s homes.

Newcastle Advertiser journalists recently visited the suburb to witness first-hand the extent of the deterioration.
Among the most concerning issues observed were large and dangerous potholes on Link, Boundary and Hendrietta roads; a persistent sewage overflow between supermarkets on Boundary Road; severe road damage and illegal dumping on Daffodil Road; and what appears to be a pool of sewage on Panorama Drive, opposite the School of Industries.
The entire stretch of Panorama Drive is also riddled with dangerously large potholes.
“Lennoxton has been continuously overlooked when it comes to municipal maintenance and infrastructure repair. Many residents feel ignored and neglected as service delivery has drastically deteriorated,” the resident said.

Health concerns have increased, particularly for families with young children and elderly relatives.
“Effluent that overflows onto our streets poses a serious health risk, as this contaminates our water sources and causes residents to fall ill,” he added.
Another serious challenge facing Lennoxton is the frequent bursting of water pipes, which often leaves residents without water for up to two days at a time.
“When will these issues be addressed and resolved? We continuously report these problems, but our pleas fall on deaf ears, leaving residents to suffer as a result,” he said.
The Newcastle Advertiser has submitted a formal media enquiry to the Newcastle Municipality. No response had been received at the time of publication.
