LED hosts three-day training for informal traders

At the end of the training, the traders were given speed points

From Monday to Wednesday last week, financial training for informal traders in AbaQulusi was conducted at the Cecil Emmett Hall. The training was initiated by Local Economic Development (LED) and Salga.
Traders gathered at the hall and Bongani Mlambo from Ward 11, who is a young businessman and also the chairperson of the informal traders, mentioned that, “The training cleared up many things for me as an informal trader. We were given speed points, where people from our areas who receive social grants can get cash back, where people can swipe when buying our products, where people can bet and also pay their DSTV. This programme helped us a lot, as we met with other business people and had the opportunity to learn from them.”

Mrs Ntshangase is the LED manager at AbaQulusi Municipality and also works closely with traders in the municipal area. She commented that, “Our work is to assist all business people in AbaQulusi, as well as develop businesses and grow the economy of AbaQulusi. We met with informal traders, specifically those who own tuck shops in different wards around the municipality. In total, we have 378 and we have a database for them, but we still have those who are not on our database. We always try to find people or departments that can help us in order for them to grow their businesses and knowledge as informal traders.”

At the end of the training, the traders were given speed points that can be used by their customers to buy electricity, airtime, pay DSTV and make cash withdrawals.
