Pigsty or parkade in CBD?
Businesses in the Jordan Parkade say their livelihoods are under threat.
Jordan Parkade (Voortrekker Street) has become a stinking eyesore, with urine and faeces fouling the streets and sidewalks.
One of the business owners in the CBD parkade feels threatened for two reasons: one is that the stench will keep customers away, and second that if the customers stay away, his doors will close.
Not only is there one’s health to consider, but the area is notorious for muggings which business owners say occur on a daily basis. They have blamed substance abusing vagrants of waiting for their next victims to pass by.
[Vagrants] know nothing will come of it,” said an employee of a business in the area.
Business owners want to know: who will clean up the mess? At the time of publication, formal response is being awaited from Newcastle Municipality.
