Roadblock held in Helpmekaar Road

Fines and warnings were given to non-compliant taxi drivers

A road safety awareness campaign was held in Helpmekaar Road in the St Chad’s area today (October 7).

The campaign started with a roadblock at the Ezakheni / Helpmekaar Road intersection.

Alfred Duma Local Municipality Speaker Bheki Sithole and Deputy Mayor Sizwe Simelane – together with Santaco / Operation Hlokomela, Public Safety and police – stopped several taxis to check whether they were roadworthy and also that they were licensed to transport commuters.

Fines were issued to drivers who fell foul of various road offences.
