Residents can’t believe how big the pothole is at the corner of Madras and Poona Road.
It is described as a ‘crater’ by motorists, who fear damaging their vehicles if they should happen to drive into the enormous hole.
Drivers have to swerve to the other side of the road to avoid the pothole, with one motorist commenting that it’s a hair-raising experience having to negotiate that stretch of roadway.
“You don’t know if you’re going to hit an oncoming vehicle while trying to avoid the pothole. You just hope you’ll be lucky and nothing’s coming when you pull out into the oncoming lane to save your tyres and the undercarriage of your car,” said one incredulous motorist.
Traffic sometimes actually comes to a standstill as vehicles stop and wait for others to go by before they too proceed with caution while the pothole-free lane is empty.
Not to mention when it rains and the hole fills up with water, being virtually invisible at night.
Residents are upset and say the municipality is not delivering good service delivery. They question why this is the case and why something is not done promptly to remedy the problem.
