Build It celebrates 22 years of service excellence
Store manager, Wouter Theron, said he was confident that Build It Newcastle was in the running for first place due to the neatness of the store and the friendliness of the staff.
It was a double celebration at Build It on Friday evening, December 9.
Among friends, family, valued customers and dedicated staff, Build It Newcastle commemorated its 22nd anniversary and celebrated its win in the ‘Regional Store of the Year’ competition.
Store owner, André Potgieter, attributed his success in business to ‘total customer service’, saying he appreciates each and every customer who frequents store, and he takes pride in the knowledge that they support the business because of the excellent service they receive.
Acknowledging the people who ensured that Build It enjoyed 22 years’ of success, Potgieter first thanked his wife, Marita.
He then expressed gratitude to his longest serving staff member, Dumisani Masondo, who Potgieter explained was one of two casual workers employed under him at the business where Potgieter worked prior to opening his own store.
“When I decided to open my own store in 2000, I brought Dumisani with me and he looks a little different now, having aged over the years but the one thing that never changed was his loyalty. Over the past 22 years, this is a man who has never stayed away from work. This is a man I could depend on from the very beginning,” said Potgieter.
Potgieter went on to share a story about another staff member, Sampson Sithole. “Sampson was in school when I started the shop,” recalls Potgieter. “During the school holidays, Sampson would come and work for me. He came to work so that his holidays were productive. When he completed matric, the next moment I saw there’s Sampson in the yard with a red T-shirt on. I called him and asked him what he was doing here. He said, ‘School is finished, I am working here now.’ There was no application or CV. There was nothing like that. He was here to work.”
“Last but not least, I would like to acknowledge Patrick Ndlovu who spent many years in the company,” added Potgieter.
After thanking the local contractors for their support over the years, Potgieter announced that he was looking forward to competing in the National Store of the Year competition, the winner of which will be announced at Sun City in February.
Store manager, Wouter Theron, said he was confident that Build It Newcastle was in the running for first place due to the neatness of the store and the friendliness of the staff.
