Community receives healthcare on their doorstep

The services rendered included HIV/AIDS testing and TB screening

The TB&HIV Investigative Network (THINK) successfully hosted a community outreach programme at Intombi’s Camp (Ward 20) under Alfred Duma Local Municipality.

The programme was in partnership with the Department of Health, Acaciavale Clinic and uThukela District Municipality’s HIV/AIDS office.

A comprehensive package of primary healthcare services was provided to the community. This included HIV/AIDS testing, TB screening and testing, and PreP initiation.

The event was supported by social partners in the district, namely the Health Systems Trust (HST) and Gay & Lesbian Wellness Centre, and was a display of unity between the Department of Health and these social partners.

It is hoped that more communities can benefit from this initiative that takes healthcare services closer to people who are faced with social ills, as well as economic and structural barriers in accessing primary healthcare services.
