An easy milk tart recipe to celebrate National Milk tart Day

To celebrate National Milk Tart Day, the Newcastle Advertiser has gathered an easy recipe to help you make your very own milk tart to enjoy with your family today.

Today (February 27) marks National Milk Tart Day, which is a proudly South African annual celebration.

It’s a day where South Africans celebrate their proud heritage of the very popular dessert, which remains a favourite in any household.

Whether you are young or old, nothing beats a deliciously prepared slice of milk tart while enjoying a relaxing afternoon.

Where did the milk tart originate from?

Milk tart originated among the Dutch in the Cape Colony in the 1700s and continued to be a favourite in especially Afrikaner households.

The original name for this pudding is ‘melktert’, which directly translates to milk tart in English.

This has long been a staple food at church bazaars and home industries, and even at your local supermarket.

Although you can easily find an instant, hurriedly made version of this tart at supermarkets, which tastes pretty good, we all know that it’ll never come close to a homemade milk tart, made with a little extra love and attention to detail.
