Municipality takes strides in addressing Newcastle water woes

Newcastle municipality has taken strides in improving the lives of its residents by upgrading the Madadeni wastewater treatment plant.

The municipality said in a statement that the upgrade of the plant is in keeping with its goal of ‘being a sustainable, thriving city region that offers its residents a good standard of living by 2035’.

After conducting regular monitoring to track the progress of the development, the municipality said the facility was 93% complete.

It is envisaged that the project, which cost the municipality R136, 008,590.50 will solve the town’s raw sewage outflow and water resource contamination.

Mayor Xolani Dube applauded the efforts of his team saying:  “The upgrade of the Madadeni wastewater treatment plant is very critical in reducing pollution and improving the environment.”
