Municipality lends a hand to storm victims

Following a catastrophic storm on Monday (June 3), the Newcastle municipality has taken action to assist affected families.

Newcastle Speaker of Council Thengi Zulu, along with the Disaster Management teams, paid a visit to the areas left ravaged by the storm, assessing the damage and giving food parcels to those in need.

According to the municipality, one resident was injured during the storm and needed hospitalisation.

The municipality is appealing to community members to donate non-perishable food, clothes, sanitary towels, and nappies to support the relief efforts.

The mayor of the Amajuba District Municipality, Ndabuko Zulu, encouraged disaster management personnel to work hard to provide assistance to those in need and sent messages of support to those affected by the storms.

He also pleaded with the community and business sector to pitch in and donate what they could.

Donations can be dropped off at the Newcastle municipality offices, and reports of damage or incidents can be made to 0635045148.
