Water outages continue in Estcourt

It is not clear when water will be restored to the affected areas

Water outages don’t seem to be letting up in Estcourt and are plaguing areas such as the town itself, Papkuilsfontein, Forderville, Colita, the industrial area and Ransburg (also known as Esigodlweni).

Residents are worried that these outages will continue throughout the week, as it has come to light that uThukela workers are striking outside the municipal offices today (December 2), allegedly complaining about salary issues.

It is believed that the current water interruptions have been caused by a burst pipe at the Estcourt Golf Course. The above-mentioned communities last had water from their taps on Wednesday, November 27.

On Thursday morning, uThukela District Municipality confirmed that the burst pipe runs from the Archie Rodell Water Treatment Plant to the reservoir in Richmond Road.

“This notice serves to inform the community of Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality that we have a major burst pipe in Estcourt on the pumping main from Archie Rodell to the Richmond Road reservoir. The pipe has been exposed, but we are still looking for a 400mm diameter short collar to conduct the repairs. Water supply to Estcourt town, industries, prison, Forderville, Papkuilsfontein, Colita and Esigodlweni is interrupted. Apologies for the inconvenience caused,” said uThukela.
