Mayor leads clean-up campaign in CBD

Street hawkers, businesses and residents are encouraged by the mayor to keep our town clean.

Alfred Duma Local Municipality Mayor Zama Sibisi conducted a clean-up awareness campaign in the CBD yesterday (February 27).

The mayor was accompanied by Executive Director of Community & Social Services Ms N Nguse.

The campaign was carried out by cleaning and solid waste officers, along with Community Work Programme (CWP) workers, with the aim of promoting a safe and clean environment.

Sibisi said this municipality was placed third in the 2023/2024 Cleanest Municipality Competition in the ‘Urban’ category. Following this achievement, he stated that, “As a municipality, we are aiming for first position.”

He also reminded hawkers that, since they were issued with trading permits last year and rely on their businesses to support their families, they are not permitted to sell illegal beverages. Doing so could result in their permits being revoked.
