Police track down ‘elusive’ prison escapee

The escapee was returned to Ncome prison

Authorities immediately sprang into action following a tip-off regarding the whereabouts of wanted suspect Mndeni Buthelezi.
Buthelezi had escaped from Vryheid prison on March 12, under ‘mysterious circumstances’.
Police said they received pertinent information at about 13:00 on Wednesday last week that Buthelezi was in a taxi travelling from Vryheid to Johannesburg. He was tracked down and cornered inside the vehicle, where he was arrested.
Buthelezi was returned to Ncome prison and is set to appear in the Mtubatuba High Court on April 14, facing murder charges.
