CoGTA rewards Okhahlamba for good performance

The municipality has been allocated an additional R1.5 million in funding

Okhahlamba Local Municipality (Bergville) will receive an additional R1.5 million in funding due to good service delivery. Okhahlamba is one of the municipalities in KZN to be recently praised by Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) MEC Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi for exceptional performance in the utilisation of the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG).

Other municipalities that were awarded additional funding are: uMgungundlovu District Municipality – R10 million; Zululand District Municipality – R6 million; Ulundi Local Municipality – R3 million; Greater Kokstad Local Municipality – R7 million; uBuhlebezwe Local Municipality – R1.5 million; and uMzumbe Local Municipality – R1.5 million.

CoGTA said that good performance in the arena of service delivery has resulted in an additional allocation of funding, totalling R30 million, being awarded to these high-achieving municipalities.

Okhahlamba believes this recognition by CoGTA serves as a powerful motivator to continue building a municipality that is responsive, people-centred and developmentally focused. “We welcome with great appreciation the announcement by KZN CoGTA MEC Rev Thulasizwe Buthelezi regarding the additional allocation of MIG funding. The allocation of R1.5 million is not only a reflection of our consistent and responsible approach to grant spending, but also a validation of our commitment to improving the quality of life for the people of Okhahlamba.”

“We are particularly proud to be recognised among high-performing municipalities in the province for our efficient utilisation of infrastructure grants. As a municipality, we submitted a request for R15 million in support of ongoing infrastructure development projects. While we have secured R1.5 million from the additional allocation, we are confident that these funds will further bolster our service delivery programmes. Through MIG funding, we have made meaningful strides in transforming the lives of our residents. Our service delivery projects have a direct and lasting impact on the daily lives of our people,” added the municipality.

CoGTA said the allocation will be used to improve access to basic services such as roads, water and sanitation within these municipalities.
