Bridge and swimming pool to get a face-lift in upcoming financial year

The Vryheid swimming pool, a beloved landmark for many who grew up in town, has been an eyesore in recent times.

The Emarasteni Bridge in Bhekuzulu has been notorious for flooding during the rainy season, often resulting in tragic loss of life. In January this year, the bridge once again overflowed, causing significant damage to nearby houses. During an IDP roadshow, Mayor Mkhwanazi announced that the bridge will undergo construction in the 2025/26 financial year. The planned construction, budgeted at R7,926,755, aims to provide the community with peace of mind during the rainy season.
The Vryheid swimming pool, a beloved landmark for many who grew up in town, has been an eyesore in recent times. Despite residents expressing concerns about the allocation of funds, with many preferring money to be directed towards more pressing issues such as potholes, the swimming pool has been approved for an upgrade with a budget of R2,100,000.
It is important to note that the swimming pool falls under Community Services. Potholes, electricity and water are part of Technical Services, which has its own budget.
