Heavily-armed gang hits cash-in-transit van in Kambula Road
The suspects, believed to have been travelling in two vehicles, fled in the direction of Paulpietersburg.
The news of a brazen cash-in-transit (CIT) heist shook residents on Friday morning when a group of approximately 10 men ambushed a van along the Paulpietersburg road. It is alleged that the group of armed suspects ambushed the security vehicle as it was travelling along the stretch between Kambula and Vryheid. Explosives were reportedly used to blow open the vehicle. The suspects, believed to have been travelling in two vehicles, fled in the direction of Paulpietersburg with an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as the security guards’ firearms. The incident caused significant disruption, with traffic brought to a standstill while forensic teams combed the area for shell casings and evidence. This latest heist adds to a growing list of CIT incidents in Northern KwaZulu-Natal in recent months.
