ANC Youth League launches essay competition to tackle social ills
Great prizes will be awarded to the writers of the top three essays
The ANC Youth League Nomsa Mthiya Branch in Ward 17, under the Josiah Gumede Region, has officially launched an essay writing competition aimed at addressing social issues that affect young people in the region.
This initiative seeks to empower the youth by encouraging them to reflect and express their views on how they can contribute to the fight against social ills such as drug abuse, gender-based violence, teenage pregnancy, unemployment and poverty.
The theme of the competition is: ‘What can young people do to fight social ills?”

Attractive prizes will be awarded for the top three essays:
1st prize – R800;
2nd prize – R500;
3rd prize – R200.
According to branch secretary Sinazo Gumede, entries must not exceed 1000 words and can be written in either English or isiZulu. Each submission must include the writer’s name, age and contact details. Essays can be submitted in handwritten format or electronically via email to: lancelotgumede@gmail.com or nphelokwakhe@gmail.com
The deadline for submission is Monday, June 30.
This competition is a powerful platform for young voices to be heard and for the youth to become active participants in shaping a better future for their communities.
