Vryheid once again welcomed a group of learners and educators from Kloof High School on Saturday, August 1, as they explored some of the town’s most important historical landmarks.

Exploring Vryheid’s history

The visit included guided tours of the 1885 Nieuwe Republiek Museum and the historic Dutch Reformed Church, giving learners the opportunity to experience Vryheid’s unique history firsthand.

The educational excursion was organised by Kloof High School teacher and tour group leader Jean-Paul Olivier, who regularly brings learners to Vryheid to broaden their understanding of South African history beyond the classroom.

A visit appreciated by learners and educators

Following the visit, Kloof High School thanked the museum and its staff for their hospitality.

“Thank you so much for hosting us. Our learners had a wonderful time and gained so much from the experience,” the school said.

André van Ellinckhuysen said it is always a pleasure to welcome the school back to Vryheid.

“We absolutely love having the learners from Kloof here with us in Vryheid. A big thank you to Mr Jean-Paul Olivier for arranging the visit to our small town. See you guys in 2027,” he said.

Olivier praised the museum and the team who made the visit possible.

“Your museum is an incredible centre for the nation’s history. I hope many other schools realise this and come to visit. Thank you to the whole team – we loved it,” he said.
