Local fitness drive helps the elderly stay active and healthy

Thabani Hlatshwayo offers free fitness sessions to promote physical and mental health.

Gym enthusiast Thabani Hlatshwayo has kick-started an initiative to help elderly people exercise.

Today (July 7), a handful of elderly people – mostly women – met at the Ezakheni E-Section sporting facilities, where they began their journey to keep healthy.

Hlatshwayo says the idea is to help elderly people who are neglected.

He said he is doing this free of charge and is hoping that more people will join.

“Exercising and keeping fit doesn’t only help them physically, but also emotionally and mentally, as they get time to relax and have a bit of fun. My focus is not only on the elderly; I will also soon be starting programmes that focus on children,” said Hlatshwayo.
