Stabbed hijack victim found dead after police search

K9 unit discovers body of stabbed hijack victim after desperate community search.

The search for a missing hijack victim ended sadly, with the 45-year-old man being found dead.
The hijacking happened on Tuesday last week on the P700 between Ulundi and Empangeni . The two victims were allegedly brutally assaulted and stabbed.
The pair made their way to a nearby house, but according to a witness, the 45-year-old kept on running because he believed he was still being chased by the hijackers. In the meantime, the other victim was taken to hospital for treatment. Police were then called to the scene. Together with community members, they searched the area for the missing man.
The search proved unsuccessful, so Mahlabathi police contacted the Vryheid K9 Search & Rescue Unit to assist. K9 sniffer dog Achil picked up the scent and found the man in a donga, but not alive. The man had died allegedly as a result of the stab wounds he sustained during the hijacking.
Police are investigating the case.
