Cash-in-transit vehicle ambushed and bombed on R34

Robbers ambush CIT van on R34, bomb it open and steal cash and firearms.

Just a few weeks after the cash-in-transit heist on the Paulpietersburg road, another incident occurred on Monday afternoon last week, this time on the R34 towards Utrecht. A cash-in-transit van was en-route to Utrecht when it was intercepted by a silver vehicle. The occupants opened fire and shot out one of the van’s tyres. This forced the driver to stop. Armed with high-calibre weapons, the robbers ordered the guards to lie, face-down, in the grass a few metres from the vehicle. The highly-organised criminals then bombed the vehicle open and stole an undisclosed amount of cash, as well as the guards’ firearms, before fleeing the scene. The getaway vehicle was discovered the following afternoon in a tree plantation near Kambula. Police and forensic teams are investigating the case.
