Woman escapes after terrifying home invasion in Zaailaagte

A couple was attacked and robbed in a traumatic home invasion in Zaailaagte last Monday.

A couple was left severely traumatised following a violent home invasion in Zaailaagte last week Monday.
According to the wife, the ordeal began after she brought her husband a cup of coffee in bed. When she returned to the kitchen, she was confronted by five intruders, one of whom was armed with a knife. The men forced her back to the bedroom, where three of them assaulted her husband and tied him up with cable ties.
The robbers then demanded money and the wife handed over a sum of cash. However, the men were not satisfied and demanded more. The wife was forced to open the household safe; and the suspects stole three firearms, additional cash and jewellery.
The woman was then taken to the study, where the robbers stole two laptops. They also demanded the couple’s car keys and the remote for the gate. Scarily, they attempted to abduct the wife, but she managed to escape through a side door and alert a neighbour.
The suspects’ plan to flee in the couple’s bakkie failed when they couldn’t get it started. They ultimately fled the scene on foot.
Vryheid police are currently investigating.
