Motorists gain relief as petrol price is reduced

Fuel prices are changing in August 2025, with a petrol price drop bringing some relief, while diesel and paraffin prices rise. Read more here:

Minister of Mineral & Petroleum Resources Gwede Mantashe announced the new fuel price adjustments will come into effect at midnight on August 6.

Petrol prices will decrease, giving motorists a slight sigh of relief. However, the prices of diesel and paraffin will increase.

The price adjustments are as follows:

  • Petrol 93 (ULP & LRP): 28 cents per litre decrease;
  • Petrol 95 (ULP &LRP): 28 cents per litre decrease;
  • Diesel (0.05% sulphur): 65 cents per litre increase;
  • Diesel (0.005% sulphur): 63 cents per litre increase;
  • Illuminating paraffin (wholesale): 32 cents per litre increase;
  • SMNRP for IP: 43 cents per litre increase;
  • Maximum retail price of LP Gas: 69 cents per kilogram decrease and 78 cents per kilogram decrease in the Western Cape.
