Local learners explore careers beyond retail at mall expo

Learners discover career opportunities beyond retail at Princess Mkabayi Mall's inspiring expo.

One of the values of Princess Mkabayi Mall is to host community initiatives. A career expo was organised by the mall on Friday to expose learners to various career choices they can make.

Grade 11 pupils from local schools filled the second entrance of the mall to learn more about different departments and organisations, such as the departments of Education, Health, SAPS and RTI. There were also paramedics, business people, dentists, founders of various foundations, and many others.

Lerato Mandlanzi, who is the marketing consultant at Princess Mkabayi Mall, commented that, “The main purpose of the career expo is for our learners to be exposed to different careers, for instance, there are learners who think that when you work at a mall, the only career you have is in retail, but today we wanted them to see that we have people here who do various types of work, like being in centre management, maintenance people, marketing, the finance office, etc. So we have many careers here at the mall that our learners are not aware of. This is our opportunity to reveal these careers so they can start planning their future.’’

Different officials shared what they do and how they managed to get into their respective working fields. Words of motivation followed. Entertainment by the learners – such as dancing, rapping and poetry – closed off the day.
