Lennoxton Primary School was transformed into a temporary medical centre, with rooms dedicated to various specialities, including gynaecology, optometry, haematology, general medicine, blood work, and pharmacy.
Highly experienced and trainee doctors from Durban, Ladysmith, Ermelo and Johannesburg sacrificed two days to travel to Newcastle to evaluate patients, offering their services free of charge.
Optometry services in high demand Vijay Singh, chairperson of the Newcastle Sub Centre of the Ramakrishna Clinic, said the clinic was well attended, with optometry services in high demand.
“Service to humanity is one of our core functions,” Singh said. “We conduct many activities providing humanitarian aid, food, and outreach programmes.”
The service was free for all Newcastle and surrounding residents, regardless of race or religion. Patients expressed deep gratitude for the invaluable support the clinic provides annually.
Singh thanked sponsors, the Newcastle community, and volunteers who assist year after year.
“This is only possible because of their generous support,” he said.
Residents are encouraged to follow Ramakrishna social media channels and other media for updates on the next medical camp.
