A tip-off that a vehicle was speeding and driving recklessly on the R34 between Vryheid and Melmoth on Sunday led to a massive drug haul and one man being arrested.

Police acted quickly and the vehicle was intercepted at Mgababa after the driver attempted to enter a residential area. Upon searching the car, police found several bags of dagga weighing a total of 150 kilograms. The driver was also found in possession of a licensed firearm (9mm pistol), along with 18 live rounds of ammunition.

The man was arrested on charges of dealing in dagga. Authorities have confirmed that the case will be pursued vigorously, as the R34 route is known to be used by traffickers transporting drugs between towns.
