Police seize dagga worth R4 million after Dundee car chase
Police arrested a man and seized dagga worth R4 million after a high-speed chase in Dundee.
Dundee SAPS arrested a 32-year-old man for dealing in dagga when officers seized 90 bags of compressed dagga after pulling over a vehicle in Dundee on Tuesday evening, August 5.
“Officers received intelligence about a vehicle entering the country from Eswatini via Paulpietersburg, allegedly transporting a large consignment of dagga. Members from the Glencoe K9 Unit, Zululand District Task Team and Dundee Crime Prevention acted swiftly to intercept the vehicle,” SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, told the Courier.
The car, matching the description, was spotted travelling on the R33 towards Blood River. When police attempted to stop it, the driver sped off, prompting a chase. Officers managed to intercept and stop the vehicle in Dundee.
During a search of the car, police discovered 90 bags of compressed dagga packed across the passenger seat, back seat and boot. The total street value of the haul is estimated at R4 million.
The suspect was arrested and charged with dealing in dagga. He is expected to appear in the Dundee Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, August 6.
