Learners shine at AbaQulusi Career Dress-Up Day
Learners dressed as future professionals at the first AbaQulusi Career Dress-Up Day and Expo.
The Amasobode Foundation, in partnership with the PACE Career Centre, recently hosted the 1st Annual AbaQulusi Career Dress-Up Day and Expo 2025.
The idea was strongly supported by the Rural 2 Rural Initiative.
Four primary schools took part, namely Harpo, Besterspriut, Thabani and Bhekuzulu; as well as two secondary schools, Vryheid Comprehensive and Mpofini Secondary School. Representing the primary schools were their Grade 7 pupils, while the secondary schools had their Grade 9 learners.
The learners were exposed to diverse professions, all the way from engineers to entrepreneurs. This made career paths both tangible and relatable. Parents, educators, local businesses and leaders came together to invest in young people’s futures, as well as strengthening community bonds.
The participating learners got to dress up as future professionals – helping to visualise their success, and boost self-esteem and ambition. The workshops and presentations nurtured critical thinking, communication and goal-setting skills for the learners.
The successful event was attended by subject advisors Ms Madela, Mrs Ntshangase and Dr Dlamini from the Bhekuzulu circuit. The following exhibitors and guests were also in attendance: Mthashana TVET College; Lusatech Training Academy; Department of Sport, Arts & Culture; National Youth Development Agency; Superlife; Afrimat; Sunbake; Sboniso Sibisi; and Advocate Mlungwana.
Ayanda Kubheka mentioned that, “The Amasobode Foundation strongly appreciates the role played by Teach The Nation, T.D Design, Tripple E Sound System, Vryheid Herald, PACE Career Centre, Uhambo Lusaqhubeka Photography, Meatmasters, TFS Vryheid, Stilwater, C20 and SACE. Even though some could not attend physically or speak during the event, they are deeply appreciated.”
The winners of the 1st Annual AbaQulusi Career Dress-Up Day and Expo 2025 were: Asbonge Buthelezi – best dressed certificate, Simphiwe Mdluli – best exhibitor, Mawande Sangweni – best presenter, Syamthanda Msimango – best innovation, and Minehle Mtshali – best researcher.
