MEC visits Al-Imdaad Foundation during Cabinet Day
The Al-Imdaad Foundation believes that people must plant and produce their own food, instead of waiting to be helped.
As part of Wednesday’s (October 29) uThukela District OSS/DDM Cabinet Day site visits, a delegation led by MEC for Economic Development, Tourism & Environmental Affairs Rev Musa Zondi visited the Al-Imdaad Foundation in Estcourt, under Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality.
The Al-Imdaad Foundation manages several community gardens aimed at promoting food security and equipping residents with essential agricultural skills. During Women’s Month in August, the foundation trained local women on sustainable planting techniques, empowering them to become self-sufficient food producers.
During the visit, Zondi – together with the head of the Education Department, Mr Nkosinathi Ngcobo – presented certificates to the women who successfully completed training in home gardening and food production. This initiative stands as a testament to Al-Imdaad’s ongoing commitment to empowerment, self-reliance and community resilience.
Zondi said the certificates are an acknowledgement of the women’s hard work, but stressed that it is important that they put what they have learned into practice.
