Free diabetes testing by Lions Club

The community is encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity so that the condition can be detected early.

The Lions Club of Estcourt is offering free diabetes testing on Saturday, November 15, at Arrie Nel Pharmacy, Hillside Shopping Centre, from 9:00 to 11:00.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a health condition that affects the body’s ability to control blood sugar levels.

There are two main types:

Type 1: Occurs when the pancreas stops producing insulin. It often begins in children or young adults and requires daily insulin injections for management.

Type 2: Happens when the body doesn’t use insulin effectively or doesn’t produce enough. Around 85-90% of diabetes cases are Type 2, and many people remain undiagnosed.

Common symptoms

Common symptoms include excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, weight changes and slow-healing wounds.
