What is rabies?

According to the World Health Organisation rabies is a fatal viral disease that affects the brain and nervous system of both animals and humans. It spreads through the bite or scratch of an infected animal. Once symptoms appear, rabies is almost always fatal but can be treated successfully, but vaccination is the best and only effective prevention.
