Police are investigating the murder of a 57-year-old debt collector, Dumisani Khanyile, who was found shot dead inside his bakkie at Nceceni, Mondlo, on Tuesday night.

Police confirm multiple gunshot wounds

SAPS sources not authorised to speak to the media told the Herald that Khanyile had been driving towards the main Nquthu–Blood River Road when he came under fire. The police source confirmed that Khanyile sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Vehicle riddled with bullets

“The vehicle had several bullet holes on the driver’s door, with exit holes visible on the passenger side. Spent cartridges were also found both inside and outside the bakkie,” the source said.

Residents report hearing gunfire

Residents who arrived shortly after the shooting reported hearing a volley of gunshots before discovering the vehicle and its occupant.

Murder case opened; motive unknown

A case of murder has been opened, and the body has been handed over to forensic services for a post-mortem examination.

The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and police investigations are ongoing.
