Police investigate after a woman is killed and a man injured in a Mondlo shooting.

Police are investigating a murder and attempted murder following a shooting that occurred in the early hours of Saturday near Mondlo.

Victims found after gunfire heard

SAPS sources not authorised to speak to the media told the Vryheid Herald that 25-year-old Samukelisiwe Ntokozo Mntambo was fatally shot, and another man was seriously injured in the attack.

Shots fired along B2136 road

It is alleged that shortly after 02:00, Mntambo’s boyfriend and two friends left for a nearby tavern, leaving Mntambo and her friend behind at a house along the B2136 road. While on their way, they reportedly heard several gunshots and rushed back to find both victims wounded.

Woman dies, man rushed to hospital

The police source confirmed that the pair was taken to Mondlo Clinic, where Mntambo was declared dead on arrival. Her friend was later transferred to Vryheid Hospital for further treatment.

Police confirm multiple gunshot wounds

“The woman sustained several gunshot wounds,” the source said. “The male victim suffered multiple injuries.”

Motive remains unclear as investigation continues

The source added that investigators are still piecing together what led to the shooting.
“At this stage, the motive is unknown,” the source said. “We are following several leads and the investigation is continuing.”
