uThukela District welcomes two new councillors
The two new councillors are Edith Lite from the ANC and Anand Rajkoomar from the DA.
uThukela District Municipality has officially welcomed two new councillors, following a swearing-in ceremony held at the council speaker’s boardroom today (November 13).
Cllr Edith Lite from the ANC and Cllr Anand Rajkoomar from the DA took their oaths of office in the presence of Municipal Manager Mr LS Jili and Council Speaker TY Nqubuka.
The new appointments come after the resignation of former ANC councillor Sabatha Mzimela, as well as internal re-ordering within the DA.
Both councillors are no strangers to the world of local governance. Lite previously served as a ward councillor at Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality (Ward 10), while Rajkoomar represented Ward 13 at Alfred Duma Local Municipality (Ladysmith).
The district municipality expressed confidence that the newly-sworn-in councillors will add valuable experience and leadership to council.

“It is envisaged that these councillors will bring a wealth of experience, knowledge, wisdom and a proven track record of advocating for the best interests of the community,” the municipality said.
Under the Municipal Structures Act, councillors play a crucial role in policy-making and community engagement. The municipality noted that both councillors have the skills and dedication needed to serve the district impartially and effectively.
The District Council extended its best wishes to Cllrs Lite and Rajkoomar as they begin their new chapter of service to the people of uThukela.
