Vryheid Bowling Club refutes rumours of permanent shutdown

Vryheid Bowling Club denies closure rumours, confirming relocation plans and rejecting mismanagement claims.

While questions remain over the future of the Vryheid Bowling Club, allegations that the club has permanently closed due to the mismanagement of funds have been refuted.

Club responds to closure allegations

Responding to the allegations made to the Herald by an anonymous person, Lindsey Steele of the club said:

“We are not aware of any plans to shut down. In fact, we are in the process of relocating to a new venue. We also have no knowledge of any mismanagement of funds,” she said.

Financial challenges and community appeal

Earlier this year, the club appealed to the public for donations to help address financial strain caused by rising maintenance costs, ageing infrastructure, and daily operational expenses.

At the time, the club warned that without urgent support, it might struggle to continue operating long enough to celebrate its centenary in two years’ time.
