Ward 21 War Room leads awareness campaign in Weenen
The community was educated about the importance of maintaining protection orders and honouring court commitments.
The Ward 21 War Room successfully hosted an important community awareness campaign last Friday (November 7) in Weenen. The initiative was sparked by concerns raised by the Department of Justice’s Weenen Local Office during War Room meetings, highlighting a rise in community members cancelling protection orders and failing to appear for scheduled court dates.
In response, the War Room partnered up with the Department of Justice and several other key stakeholders to organise a comprehensive awareness drive targeting all three wards in Weenen. The aim was to educate residents on the importance of maintaining protection orders, honouring court commitments, and understanding available support services.
The event began with on-site service delivery from the attending departments, followed by a peaceful march through the town and the taxi rank. Community members were able to engage directly with the officials, ask questions, and receive guidance on justice-related matters and social services.

The War Room extended its appreciation to the stakeholders that participated, including the Department of Justice, CoGTA, Home Affairs, Health, Labour, Social Development, SAPS, ILM Disaster Office, Correctional Services, and Simunye Youth Development Centre.
Gratitude was also expressed to the Ward 21 and Ward 22 councillors for their attendance, and for providing refreshments to both community members and officials.
This collaborative effort marks a significant step in strengthening community awareness, promoting justice and improving safety in Weenen.
