2nd body found in river: police probe continues

The circumstances surrounding both deaths are currently unclear, and authorities have not confirmed whether the incidents are related.

Another body has been found in a river in the Estcourt area, raising deep concern among residents following a similar incident reported by the Estcourt News last week.

The latest discovery was made on Sunday morning (November 30) near the Mathamo River in Wembezi C-Section, where the body of a 27-year-old man was found by community members.

Police responded to the scene and launched an investigation.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan confirmed the incident, saying that an inquest docket has been opened.

“Wembezi detectives are investigating an inquest after the body of a 27-year-old male was found near the Mathamo River in C-Section, Wembezi, on Sunday morning. The deceased has not yet been identified,” said Khan.

This is the second body to be retrieved from a river in Estcourt in just over a week. In the first incident, an unidentified man was found floating in the river near Princess Park.

Police confirmed that the victim from last week’s discovery also remains unidentified.
