Community enjoys market and enduro at Paddadam

A muddy Paddadam enduro drew big crowds and strong performances at a church fund-raiser.

The air at the Paddadam was filled with excitement, two-stroke fumes and festive energy on Saturday morning as the usual market blended seamlessly with a lively off-road motorbike enduro held in support of NG Kerk Suid-Oos. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, with families, riders and supporters arriving early to secure good viewing spots before the action began.

Market adds colour to the morning

The market, already a popular Saturday stop, added even more colour to the event. Stalls offered everything from breakfast bites to handmade crafts, freshly-baked items and treats that kept spectators circling back for more.

Motorsport meets community spirit

For many visitors, it was the perfect mix of motorsport thrills and community charm.

Turnout surpasses organisers’ expectations

On the racing side, the turnout exceeded all expectations. Riders travelled from as far as Memel, Pongola and Piet Retief to take on the challenge. The organisers were thrilled with the response. “We expected 30 entries and we ended up with about 80. This has exceeded our expectations and we are so grateful, since it is a fund-raiser for the church,” they said.

Challenging conditions after heavy rain

The course was no easy ride. Heavy rain the night before transformed sections of the route into slippery mud traps, with wet rocks and washed-out stretches forcing riders to stay sharp from start to finish. The steep uphill section quickly became the talking point of the day, demanding both skill and grit from the competitors.

Notable performances on the day

Despite the tough conditions, several riders delivered strong performances. One of the highlights came from Samantha Ferreira, who pushed through the mud and climbs to finish her 20-kilometre lap in an impressive time of 1:46.00.

A successful community fund-raiser

The combination of racing, community support and market activity made the fund-raiser a memorable event for both participants and spectators. The organisers thanked everyone who supported the day, saying the strong turnout and enthusiasm will have a meaningful impact on the church’s fund-raising efforts.
