Turkey on the braai… because the oven deserves a holiday too

You can have a relaxing day in the outdoors while still retaining the turkey tradition.

Super Easy Braai Turkey Recipe

Ingredients

1 whole turkey (4-6 kg)
Salt & pepper
4 tbsp olive oil (or melted butter)
1 lemon, halved
1 onion, cut in chunks
4 cloves garlic (optional)

Instructions (super simple)

1. Prep the turkey: Pat the turkey dry. Rub it with olive oil. Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper (don’t be shy!). Put the lemon halves, onion and garlic inside the turkey.

2. Set up the braai: Use indirect heat (coals on the sides, turkey in the middle). Aim for 180-200°C.

3. Braai it: Place the turkey breast side up in the centre. Close the lid. Cook for about 2.5-3.5 hours, depending on size. Every 45 minutes, open the lid and brush with a bit of oil or butter (optional).

Check & rest: It’s ready when the juices run clear OR the leg wiggles easily. Let it rest for 15-20 minutes before carving.
