Wembezi community sadly lays slain woman to rest
Buyi was remembered as a devoted mother who always ensured that her children had food on the table.
The woman who was brutally murdered last week, allegedly by her boyfriend, was laid to rest today (January 13) in the Emahhashini area of Wembezi.
According to reports, the suspect – believed to be an undocumented foreign national – refused to accept the end of the relationship, which allegedly led to a violent confrontation that claimed the woman’s life.
Members of the community described the deceased, Zibuyisile ‘Buyi’ Nokuthula, as a loving and kindhearted person who was cherished by everyone. Neighbours explained that she did not have a specific group of friends, but was friendly to everyone. She was remembered at the funeral as someone with a good heart, humble in nature, and always willing to apologise when necessary.
The service was attended by senior leaders from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality – including Mayor Mduduzi Myeza, Deputy Mayor Sithabiso Dladla, Speaker SW Khumalo, Ward 17 Councillor Mchunu and Station Commander Radebe.
The mayor conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family and issued a plea to the children to take good care of their mother’s home. He further made a promise that one of the deceased’s children will be assisted with a job to put food on the table.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan said the suspect appeared in court on Monday (January 12) and faces two charges – one of murder and another for being in the country without proper documentation.
The case was postponed to January 21 to allow the court to secure an interpreter.
The tragic death has left the community in deep mourning, as calls continue for justice and an end to gender-based violence.
