Klipriver pump station has flooded

Certain areas are likely to be without water.

How did the pump station flood?

A pipe connection apparently failed while a service provider was busy replacing a pump that would have ended the water-shedding. The building quickly filled with water, with the pumps literally under about six metres of water. Workers had to evacuate the area.

What’s happening to the pumps?

Pumps are now being used to extract the water, but it is believed that all the pumps have been damaged by the flooding. This has directly impacted the Ladysmith Water Treatment Plant’s ability to supply water to the community and industry at full capacity. Water pressure has been reduced, and all areas supplied by this plant will be affected.

Which areas will be affected?

Areas that will be without water include Hospital Park, Observation Hill, Egerton, Modelkloof, Steadville and the CBD. Basically, all the areas affected by the recent water-shedding.

We will provide an update later this afternoon (January 14) on the exact time-frame for repairs. Assume the worst and store water now!
