Alfred Duma Local Municipality Mayor Zama Sibisi visited the train station today after concerns were raised about the long queues outside the facility. Accompanied by Mr Andile Masondo (Phelophepa Train social mobiliser), the mayor conducted a walkabout, greeted patients, engaged with them, and took note of the challenges and complaints raised.

Sibisi apologised to patients who had been waiting in long queues, some of whom had spent the night outside the station. “We understand your situation and it is deeply concerning that some of you had to sleep on the concrete outside. We will be meeting with Transnet officials to find solutions to this situation,” he said.

The mayor expressed his appreciation to Transnet for selecting Ladysmith as one of the towns visited by the Phelophepa Health Care Train.

Meanwhile, the Al-Imdaad Foundation assisted by distributing sandwiches to those waiting in queues.
