Local coaches gain skills at elite rugby workshop
Coaches from Newcastle clubs attended an advanced Pumas Rugby Union course, gaining hands-on insight into modern training.
Coaches from Newcastle Highlanders Rugby Club and Arbor Park Primary School attended an advanced coaching course hosted by the Pumas Rugby Union in Nelspruit from January 23 to 24.
Gaining valuable insight
The programme was led by Pumas head coach Jimmy Stonehouse, with assistance from forwards coach Cornè Steenkamp and conditioning coach Louis van der Westhuizen.
During the course, the coaching team put the union’s professional players through a series of practical drills. These sessions demonstrated modern coaching techniques, training methods and game strategies used at high-performance level.
The course formed part of a broader workshop attended by 142 coaches, offering valuable hands-on exposure to elite rugby coaching environments.
Participants left with new skills and practical knowledge, which they can now apply within their own teams where appropriate.
