NPO gives learners confidence with donations

The school principals thanked the organisation for their generous contributions.

Empowering learners through hygiene, dignity and awareness

Building Confidence with Care NPO has successfully concluded a week-long cosmetics and shoe drive aimed at restoring dignity and empowering learners across five local schools.

The NPO – which is dedicated to promoting self-confidence, personal hygiene and positive social behaviour among young people – led the initiative as part of its ongoing community outreach programmes. The drive focused not only on collecting essential items, but also on addressing critical social challenges affecting learners.

Reaching 5 schools, impacting hundreds

The outreach was conducted at Hursley Primary School, Watershed Primary School, Ingula High School, Ngoza High School and Mankayana High School.

During the week, learners received donated cosmetics and shoes, which are essential items that many underprivileged families struggle to afford. The organisers said the goal was to ensure that learners feel confident and comfortable at school, as appearance and hygiene often play a significant role in self-esteem and academic participation.

More than donations: Conversations that matter

Beyond the distribution of goods, the drive featured interactive awareness sessions at each school. Topics included personal hygiene, self-care, substance abuse, social crime and the importance of making responsible life choices.

These sessions sparked meaningful dialogue among learners, encouraging them to reflect on their social environments and empowering them to make positive decisions. The facilitators emphasised that small acts of care and kindness can have a lasting impact within communities.

A vision for ongoing impact

The initiative was spearheaded by Kwanele Mbatha, founder of Building Confidence with Care NPO, who highlighted the importance of restoring dignity to learners while addressing broader social issues.
