Heavy rains disrupt water supply in Loskop
uThukela say there is currently no scheduled water tanker programme in place due to a shortage of available trucks.
uThukela District Municipality has issued a public notice to residents of Loskop following severe water supply disruptions due to recent heavy rains.
According to uThukela, the ‘intense rainfall’ caused water pumps at the pump station in Loskop to become clogged with mud. As a result, the system is currently unable to pump water. The situation has been further worsened by a power outage that has delayed efforts to restore pumping operations.
Municipal officials say that pumping will resume once electricity is restored. At that point, teams will also be able to assess the full extent of damage to the infrastructure.
Areas affected by water shortages
The following areas are currently experiencing water supply interruptions:
- Thamela, Bata Factory, Ngonyameni, Mqedandaba, Nkomokazini, Tatane, Rosedale, Amangwe police station, and Injesuthi Clinic
Residents in these areas are advised that there is currently no scheduled water tanker programme in place due to a shortage of available water tankers.
Municipality apologises
uThukela apologises for the inconvenience caused and assures the community that updates will be communicated as more information becomes available. Residents are urged to be patient while restoration efforts are underway.
